From all of the hype before the show and the tickets being sold out weeks beforehand, tonight was definitely going to be a performance to remember. On the night of April 25th the bands Torche, Circa Survive, as well as Coheed and Cambria put on a great live performance at Revolution in Ft. Lauderdale. Now you’d think that a Sunday night isn’t the best “concert night”, but in this case, it was THE “concert night”.
Torche started off the night with a bang, hyping up the crowd with their upbeat, classic rock sounds. Being a band from Miami, FL, they were familiar to the South Florida music scene being so close to home. Needless to say, they were a great opening band to start off the night. After about a 35-minute set, the next band to take the stage was Circa Survive, a band from Philadelphia, PA. A lot of people, myself included, had been anticipating their performance for a while now because of their newly released album, ’Blue Sky Noise’, that hit stores on April 20 of this year. Although it released only 5 days before the show, it was nice to see that nearly everyone in the crowd was singing along with the band throughout the entire set, which made it that much more enjoyable to watch. They ended their impressive performance with one of their hit songs, “Imaginary Enemy”. The one thing I liked most about Circa, was how well they connected with the crowd.
Up next was the headlining band, Coheed and Cambria. Coheed, hails from New York and has actually been around for a long time, since 1995 to be exact. But they had started fading into the music scene for a while until the recent release of their new album, ’Year of the Black Rainbow’, which dropped on April 13. It was nice to see a mix of people in the crowd, old fans and new fans combined. You could feel the adrenaline pumping throughout the entire room as Coheed and Cambria walked onstage to perform around 9:45. The crowd being a bit worn from the previous Circa Survive performance had no hesitation whatsoever re-gaining their energy when Coheed had started the first song of their set. Needless to say, I immediately realized why Coheed and Cambria were headlining this tour! Throughout their set, the whole crowd was singing along and seemed to be having a great time with the band. After about an hour-long set, Coheed ended with one of their most well-known songs “Welcome Home” resulting in everyone in the crowd singing along with the band. The show itself was great, and I would suggest going to see any one of these three bands when they come back to South Florida!
