“It’s no secret. It’s hot as balls out here” – Adam Levine
With more live albums than studio albums under their belts, its clear that the live performance is something that Maroon 5 puts their everything into. And for the entirety of their set at Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheater, fans witnessed plenty of moments that seemed created just for them. Heat seemed to be the running theme of the show Thursday night. By the time Adam Levine and company made their way to the stage, those is attendance were soaked with sweat and probably praying for rain from the dark storm clouds lingering above. As the headliners blazed forward, the temperature seemed to only rise with each note that Levine hit (it only took him three songs to take off his bright yellow shirt).
Throughout the entire set, the Grammy award winners wowed the crowd with all of their hits and even a few tunes off their next release (Hands All Over, out 9-21-10) that are sure to crack the charts. Along with their original material, the Alicia Keys hit “If I Ain’t Got You” and a snippet of “What’s Love Got To Do With It” were also thrown into the mix. The highlight of the show for me came during “She Will Be Loved” when the front man broke the amphitheater into two sections and gave them each different parts to sing. The end result was a chilling round of sorts with one half singing “she will be loved”, while the half sang “I don’t mind spending everyday/Out on your corner in the pouring rain”. Maybe you had to be there.
American Idol winner Kris Allen really got things going with his forty-five minute set. As he breezed through tunes from his first release, it was almost difficult to hear him over the screaming fans. Fans were also treated to rocked out versions of the Kanye West hit “Heartless” and the Michael Jackson tune “Man In The Mirror”.
Although Thursday night was a typical August night in SoFla, Maroon 5 fans proved that they are willing to get hot and sticky for one of music’s hottest acts. Literally.
