On a somewhat chilly night for Florida Natives, at Old School Square, 102 Degree management and The Caring Kitchen got together to host a free concert to help raise money for the hungry. Performing was Fort Lauderdale based band The Heavy Pets.

The band just recently released their 2nd EP album The Heavy Pets. The route they take of getting their name out to everyone is by performing at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, Langerado, and PetZoo. The Band is composed of guitarists Jeff Lloyd and Mike Garulli, keyboardist Jim Wuest, bassist Justin Carney, and drummer Jamie Newitt, with Lloyd and Garulli both taking part in vocals.

Performing to a near full showground of fans ranging from all ages, THP let loose their style of funky and upbeat notes that just make you want to jam out. The band had the crowd up and dancing with their easy to enjoy melodies combined with off the wall instrument solos. Their music fused with in the moment solos had the crowd going wild. Add in some lyrics to sing to, dancers with glowing props, and a light show; the band definitely made it a night to remember.

Opening for THP was a group by the name of Stampede Movement. Band members are Cory Baker – Lead Vocals, Guitar, Violin; Joey Leto – Lead Vocals; Chris Montague – Lead Guitar, Vocals; Vinny Lombardi – Percussion, Vocals; Fabian Acuña – Bass, Vocals; Tristan McNeil – Drums. This group’s ability to sing about real life issues adds layers to their lyrics. The depth in their lyrics combined with laid back vibes from the beats they create was hard to not like. It was a nice surprise to be witness to the variety in the styles played by the band. The band’s interaction with the crowd only added to their charm. If one is looking for a laidback experience and good music, look out for Stampede Movement performing locally near you.
